Baby Quilt Patterns Can Be The Ideal Gift
Traditionally, baby quilt patterns were not really
child-centered. The designs created up until the turn of the 20th
century were typically adult in presentation. Baby quilt pattern
did not really begin to use designs that appealed to babies and
children until after 1900.
Young children’s themes began to emerge on to the
quilting patterns and the birth of the baby quilt pattern was formed.
One of the first designers who used children themes in her quilting
fabrics was Marie Webster. Her baby quilt patterns delighted infants
and parents alike and many of these designs for quilting children’s
throws came into popularity around 1912 and continued to influence
this craft for many years to follow. During the 1930’s many of Webster’s
baby quilt patterns were reproduced. By the 1940’s, the popularity
of using children’s themes in home décor designs exploded and many
entrepreneurs took advantage of the public’s interest. One company
gained great success by making quilting designs for babies based
on story book themes. These baby quilt patterns often included characters
like Alice in Wonderland and Mother Goose. There were many designs
based on children’s stories and there were a number of ways that
a woman of the 1940’s could use them. The baby quilt patterns were
available as appliqués for the quilting blocks. They could be bought
as kits. However, some busy ladies opted to buy completed quilts
as well. Today’s mother is typically a very busy individual who
has to balance work, family and social obligations with grace. However,
many moms want to also create something for their children by hand.
Using baby quilt patterns like the ones created in the 1940’s can
help these mothers make something from the heart without having
to commit too much time and effort in a rare art form.
Baby quilt patterns have changed over the years. While
you can often find storybook characters from classic tales, you
are more likely to find baby quilt patterns that use teddy bears,
flowers and even fish to delight your child. You can also match
the designs to the baby’s room décor. The idea of making something
that will be passed down from generation to generation is a very
attractive concept to many of us. Thoughtful gifts for baby showers
often help the mom make something for her little one. Baby quilt
patterns can be the ideal gift for an expectant mom. The kits available
today are so easy to assemble that even the busiest mom has time
to make one.
